As a continuation of it’s “Corporate Social Responsibilty Review 2009″ Mitchells & Butlers have decided to include food waste collections throughout selected pubs in the South of England.

The company conducted  a series of extensive food waste trials with Biffa , its waste contractor, and concluded that 30% of it’s general waste was food waste mainly from food preparation and plate scrapings. With a view to diverting this significant tonnage of food waste from landfill the company aim to increase it’s current level of 21,000 tonnes of recycled waste this year.

Food waste in the licensed trade is significant and M & B have shown a very high moral and environmental stand on all of it’s waste and with food waste now being recycled as opposed to going to landfill it will only help increase that 4 out of every 5 Mitchells and Butlers public houses are now taking part in their recycling initiatives.
